Our Story
Whistle Fishing is among many things, nostalgic, a nod to simpler outdoorsmanship, and effort to bring together family, friends, and trout fishing - through artful expressions in graphic design and fly tying and various other things we think are cool.
We love the outdoors. We love doing things as a family. We love fishing. We are not unique in that we want to pursue these things - but we have begun to find that we do have our own way of doing them.
We’re a couple of couples with a couple kids that have known each other for over a decade. Not long after we all met - and before we had most of our kids, Kevin and Brandon began fly fishing together at Bennett Spring, and have spent as much time as possible fishing trout water in the Ozarks of Southern Missouri.
In 2023, Kristin, Carrie, and most of our kiddos tested the waters, and caught their first fish on the fly.
You could say, “We’re all hooked!”
We began to talk more about how we could better acquaint ourselves to the flyfishing community, in ways that would give us an excuse to do more fishing, and give us an excuse to have more conversations with other people who love doing what we do.
We’ve all caught our first trout on the fly at Bennett Spring State Park, one of Missouri’s most popular trout fishing destinations, and the state’s oldest park. Our brand, Whistle Fishing Co. is aptly named for our experience in, and fondness of this park, and it’s famed ‘Whistle Bridge’, which divides Zone 2 and Zone 3 fishing areas. There’s a signal that sounds every morning and evening indicating to everyone when it’s legal to fish, and when it’s time to reel it in for the day. And no, the signal is not actually a whistle that likely was originally blown at the mill first built on this site, it’s a siren more akin to a WW2 bomb warning system.
There are a lot of folks out there crafting in their corners of the world, putting their touches on stuff that makes us all feel like we belong where the fish are - and that’s what we’re here to do - attempt to give back, curate a set of things that keep us fishing, telling stories, and inviting others to have a deeper connections to nature and each other.
